Waterway introduces Rugby Speed Fins

WaterWay has launched the hyper or speed fin for rugby.

The fin pockets are custom built according to foot size (width and length) provided by the customer. The pockets come in two fittings, comfort or performance.

“If the player chooses comfort, there will be more space, but the efficiency is not the maximum possible,” explained Anton Lyashuk, who has become the sales and product development manager for rugby and hockey in recent years.

The new model are being sold online at Finswimworld.com, the official website of WaterWay. The price, excluding shipping, is $415.00/€ 352.75.

Although the model is new to rugby, WaterWay has been making the foot pocket for around 20 years for its Glide monofins.

Asked how much faster a player could expect to swim, Lyashuk replied “faster!”

The choices of blade stiffness and material (carbon or fiber glass) remain the same.

“It’s important to try them on, as the pockets feel very different from standard fins,” said Lyashuk.

The company would like to provide players with a chance to test sample fins.

“Because of Covid we cannot say yet when this will be,” he added.

Lyashuk is aware that rugby players break fins faster than in any other underwater sport. The firm will provide blade replacement service but the cost has yet to be determined.

An athlete with with a very high foot arch might choose the Comfort fitting.
